Women’s History Month Highlight: Jan Holt, “I’ve taken what I have learned here at Latham and carried it over into my own life as a mother, friend, coworker, and nurse.”

Throughout Women’s History Month, we’ve celebrated by featuring a few of our incredible female heroes: Desiree Michienzi of the Children’s Program, Susan LaPLant of the Admissions team, and Lee Chamberlain of Senior Administration. Today we highlight Janice Holt, RN, Adult Services.

Jan has been part of the Latham team since 2000. She is a leader amongst her colleagues, an incredible asset to the team, and a mentor to our adult residents. She always has a smile on her face and is happy to lend a helping hand. Jan exemplifies Latham Heroes through her dedication to our mission and her passion for the field. Working at Latham “feels like extended family,” she said.

“I started here when I was 21 and basically grew to be the person I have become. I was always encouraged to grow personally and professionally at Latham. I felt so much support pursuing my nursing degree while I was a direct support staff from my coworkers and house manager, all the way up to administration. To be part of our individuals’

journeys from the Children’s Program to navigating the challenges of adulthood and independence has been inspiring.”

Jan is a leader not only at Latham but also in her family life. She is a go-getter and seeks adventure. She has three kids between the ages of 16 and 21, and she spends time enjoying her motorcycle, axe throwing, softball leagues, and rock wall climbing. Jan said she has gained wisdom and perspective from our residents:

“I have learned what resilience looks like, how far the art of listening, patience, compassion, and consistency can get you. I have also learned from watching our individuals achieve their goals how important it is for us to continue to set goals for ourselves and to hold ourselves accountable. I’ve taken what I have learned here at Latham and carried it over into my own life as a mother, friend, coworker, and nurse.”
