Staff Spotlight: Children’s Services promotes Dominic Monick to Residential Supervisor
October 19, 2018
Dominic (Dom) Monick, beloved by students and staff alike, is growing his career at Latham. Dom was recently promoted to the position of Children’s Residential Supervisor. In welcoming Dom to the Children’s Services Supervisory Team, Program Director Gerry Pouliot said, “Dominic is proof that hard work and a desire to work to help improve the lives of children with special needs pays off.”
Formerly a Behavior Specialist, Dom has made quite an impact here at Latham. Earlier this year, in fact, he was nominated for a prestigious award given annually by maaps (the Massachusetts Association of 766 Approved Private Schools) which honors superior direct service professionals . Dom recently reflected on his prior role here: “As a Behavior Specialist, we are responsible for being a role model to every child who comes through Latham’s doors. My job was an opportunity given to me by Latham to continue meaningful work that I feel a lot of people wish they could do, but don’t know how to go about it.” There are many rewards in our work, he noted. “Whether it’s being involved in Special Olympics, creating plans and incentives for people to reach their goals, or sharing something meaningful to a group of kids and exposing them to all the wonderful outlets this world has to offer, working in the Children’s Program at Latham provides all of these things, and I’m proud to be a part of that.”
In his new supervisory role, Dom continues to role model for the students as well as for the staff he supports. Assistant Residential Director Ron Edwards said he is impressed by Dom’s strong drive to learn and grow. “He strikes a really good balance of focusing on the kids, while also uplifting the staff to be the best that they can be.”
