Tip of the Week: Change the narrative

When your child is experiencing a challenging time either in school or at home, it can be difficult to create joy in their lives. During times of crisis we tend to focus on everything that is wrong with the situation, causing very low self-esteem and shame for your child and making it almost impossible to get them out of the crisis and back on track. As hard as it may be, create as many positive moments throughout the day as possible, compliment and praise when you can, and ignore the challenging behaviors when it’s safe to do so. Change the narrative and build positive moments to help your child move past the negative and back to baseline.
