Tip of the Week: Thinking way outside the box

Over this past year, we have met new friends, discovered new technology, and found a new appreciation for delivery services! As more of us get vaccinated and things begin to go back to how they once were, it’s important that we hold on to all of the good things that have happened in the last 12 months.

Latham has started a new virtual program that has brought children and adults with Prader-Willi syndrome from all over the country together. Friendships are formed and social and coping skills have increased, all while being safe in their homes. We have seen that the conferences that we used to fly to can now be done virtually — reaching a much broader audience of those who may not be able to travel. Even once we are all able to travel again, we will continue to have a virtual option because we have seen the impact that it has made on the lives of people who would otherwise remain isolated.

Even though this year has been so challenging for so many, we have also seen the benefit of having to think way outside of the box to continue services to those who need it the most.

Patrice Carroll, Latham Centers’ Director of PWS Services, is world-renowned for her Prader-Willi syndrome expertise. She works with Latham students and residents, their families, and other experts, continuously learning and teaching about PWS best practices.
