TIP of the WEEK: Internet Safety

Latham Centers

The internet can be a valuable resource for our kids as long as there are safety precautions in place.
1. Put parental blocks on your computer and change the password often.
2. Have the computer in a common area and not in their bedroom. Be wary if they turn the computer off quickly when you enter the room.
3. Spend time with them while they are online and talk about safety- not giving away phone numbers or addresses.
4. Pay attention if your child is talking about a new friend online and be sure to virtually introduce yourself so they are aware that you are watching your child’s online activities.
5. Watch the activity on private forums geared towards children and teens carefully.
The internet is full of amazing resources and information but can also be dangerous for children and adults who are vulnerable.
