Tip of the Week: In the “thick of it” like never before
December 4, 2020
The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas can be the most challenging time of the year for kids and families with Prader-Willi syndrome – and this year more than ever. All families experience holiday stress, but families with a child with PWS experience something that can barely be described. The focus on food during the holidays makes these weeks extremely challenging, and our kids experience stress even when they are looking forward to something good.
Do your best to keep routines the same. In past years, we’ve suggested avoiding celebrations if they cause upset in your home. This year, staying with your immediate family is the safest option. Be sure to schedule time for yourself.
Patrice Carroll, Latham Centers’ Director of PWS Services, is world-renowned for her Prader-Willi syndrome expertise. She works with Latham students and residents, their families, and other experts, continuously learning and teaching about PWS best practices. If you have PWS-related questions, we invite you to email TipTopics@LathamCenters.org.
