The gift of independence

The following excerpt from an article by VP of Operations Lee Chamberlain reminds us of the importance of independence here at Latham. In Lee’s words:
There is no greater gift that we can give to those we support than the gift of independence. Every interaction we have, every plan we write, every goal we create should be mindfully crafted to promote the skills needed for each individual to reach their highest level of independence… The individuals we support deserve the freedom to make mistakes, to grow, to learn, to become the best of themselves by their definition. For one individual, independence may be learning to read or complete a morning shower routine. For another, independence may mean living independently with supports and having full-time employment. Our jobs at Latham – above everything else – are to learn how each individual defines success and to do whatever we can to help them get there.
