Thank you, Cost Plus World Market, for the incredible Easter Cheer!

Nothing, not even a global pandemic, can keep the Easter Bunny from spreading cheer at Latham Centers.

The entire country is practicing social distancing. Many families are choosing to scale down their Passover and Easter celebrations. Shopping trips are kept to a minimum, stock is limited, and budgets are tight. We have all seen the posts on social media asking, “Anyone know where I can buy jellybeans or chocolate rabbits? I don’t think my Amazon order will arrive by Easter.” At a time when our staff is in overdrive, and everyone at Latham is taking every precaution to protect the health of our students, adult residents, and staff, holiday preparations and traditions might have taken a back seat.

Rest assured! Thanks to the generosity of Cost Plus World Market in Hyannis, we are thrilled to announce that the Easter Bunny will be hopping down the bunny trail to Latham School and our adult residences this weekend. In March, when Governor Baker ordered all non-essential businesses to close, Sales Manager Mark Dillon reached out to Latham to offer an incredible donation – World Market’s entire Easter inventory! Dozens of boxes of Easter décor, food items, toys, baskets, and candy were loaded into Latham vans and driven to our Fire Museum Training Center. Our Children’s Services residential staff could not wait to dive into the boxes and create unique and magical baskets for our students. There was more than enough to share with our Adult Services Program, too. Staff gathered decorations and Easter treats to spread some Easter cheer among our group residences.

The individuals in our program with Prader-Willi syndrome follow structured daily meal plans. Candy needs to play a minor role at holiday time, but the World Market donation included felted animals, home décor, figurines, bunny-shaped pasta, games, stickers, and plush toys – items perfectly suited for our students and residents. We were delighted to be able to invite our staff, many of whom have young families, to share in the donation. There was even enough candy left over to fill a few baskets for the hardworking first-responders at the Brewster Police and Fire Departments.

All of us at Latham wish to thank Cost Plus World Market for this remarkable gift!

We have been so deeply touched by the warmth and generosity of our community during this time. Wishing you all the blessings and renewal that this season brings. Chag Pesach samech and a very happy Easter!
