PWS Awareness Month (May 23) – Theory of Mind

People with Prader-Willi syndrome have a difficult time seeing things from others’ perspectives. This is not by choice but instead is an immature Theory of Mind. Theory of Mind is a developmental stage that most neurotypical children develop around age 3. Children with PWS do not complete this developmental stage, therefore they find it difficult to see that other people have different beliefs, experiences, and perspectives. Theory of Mind can be developed later in life with practice using stories and games that are designed to show the world through other people’s eyes.
