Principal’s Corner: Students enjoy music and dance with Capoeira Besouro Cape Cod

Our students were recently treated to a special event led by Capoeira Besouro Cape Cod. Latham Teacher Tomas Ayala coordinated the local Capoeira group, bringing the Brazilian fusion of dance and martial arts to campus on July 19th. They brought aspects of culture and music along with fitness and strength building, and our students (and staff) were engaged on many levels. “Everyone felt the positive energy and support from one another,” one staffer commented. Music, laughter, and clapping could be heard throughout our Brewster campus. Students learned different Capoeira moves and dances, and the instructor even got many of the staff involved. The students delighted in seeing so many of the Latham staff members learning (and often times messing up) the routine. When the session ended, the students commended their exhausted staff—who sat with sweat beading down their faces—for a job well done. It was fun to participate in the event, and fun to watch.

Thank you, Mestre Claudio Nascimiento from Rio De Janeiro, Ross Hathaway, Andre Lima, and Tomas Ayala from Capoeira Besouro Cape Cod for returning to campus for the second time this year! It’s a favorite activity for so many of our students.
