Principal’s Corner: Latham Centers’ Students Attend Best Buddies Prom!

prom

If one were to drop by campus last Monday, he or she would have seen staff glowing as they watched approximately 50 Latham students glamorously adorned in tuxes and prom dresses. June is always an exciting month for the students at Latham: the sun is out, the Year End Celebration is right around the corner, and prom is on everyone’s mind!
Prom is held at the Harwich Community Center and hosted by Best Buddies, however, the students, volunteers, and staff at Latham Centers go the extra mile. After fitting each male student, Kerry and Michael from Puritan Clothing came armed with tuxes and helped the students get dressed. This year the boys seemed to pick quite a few blue, purple, and pink ties! These fittings and rentals are funded by the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. Last year, both Puritan Clothing and Cooperative Bank were recipients of Latham Centers’ prestigious McClennan Award for Community Service as they work in tandem to provide such a luxurious day for our male residents.
Female students are bejeweled with beautiful dresses donated by community members and local businesses. Volunteers and staff come to campus at 7am to help the students with hair and make-up (nails were done on Friday with Volunteer Katie Driscoll)! The team of over 20 was absolutely fantastic in providing the girls with guidance – thank you to everyone for your help.
Students hopped in a limo and drove to prom in style where they met friends, danced, sang and enjoyed lunch. We are so proud of the students at Latham Centers for your continued enthusiasm and so grateful to our community partners, staff and volunteers.
