LivingHealthy Podcast: PWS University highlights student Annika

A word from Patrice Carroll and Katrina Fryklund*, Latham’s LivingHealthy Podcast hosts:

Between the two of us, we have been working at Latham Centers for over 15 years, and we’re so proud of each and every individual’s growth. It is rewarding to have opportunities day after day to connect with our students and adult residents and to see their successes, despite significant challenges. The LivingHealthy Podcast is Latham Centers’ new audio show which can be downloaded from the Internet and listened to either on a computer or an Mp3 player. Creating this podcast series has been an amazing opportunity to work with our students, especially in the PWS University series, where we are talking about Prader-Willi syndrome with those who know the diagnosis best. In our third LivingHealthy Podcast (second ‘PWS University’ Podcast), we introduce you to Annika. We have seen Annika blossom into a vivacious 12-year-old who is more in control of her anxiety, can sing on stage in front of an audience 50 large, and whose smile can light up the room.

Annika explains that she has been a student at Latham Centers for three years. She is proud of her achievements, growth, and successes. She describes what it means to stay safe, and tells us what healthy means to her. Annika also gives advice for children with PWS and parents who have a child in their life with PWS. One of our favorite moments is at the end, when Annika explains that supportive parents means happy parents.

Don’t miss this five-minute podcast and the opportunity to hear about what it means to have PWS from Annika’s perspective.

*Patrice Carroll is Latham Centers’ Director of PWS Services, and Katrina Fryklund is Director of National Outreach.
