Latham students witnessed the historic Mayflower II journey this week

Latham Centers’ Bass River Classroom ventured to Sagamore on Wednesday to see the Mayflower II pass through the Cape Cod Canal! The Mayflower II journey through the canal was national news, and before going on the trip, Classroom Teacher and 2021 McLellan Award Recipient Jeff Lee said, “Even if we don’t catch the ship, I know the trip to Sagamore will be awesome!”

The timing was right, and they were able to see the historic reproduction of the Mayflower as it headed back home to Plymouth! In an email to all Children’s Program staff after the April 13th adventure, Jeff said:

I had to share this amazing opportunity we had in Bass River today. A week ago, we read in current events that the replica hand-built boat of the original Mayflower will be passing through the Cape Cod Canal today. So, with some careful planning and a little bit of hope and luck we made the trek and braved the traffic to see the ship pass through. We did a lot of research in the fall about the pilgrims and the impact they had locally, so it was nice to see this event in person. [We] made some lasting memories for these students today.
