The Latham School students, in Brewster, are displaying a mixed media show in the Vault at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, South Yarmouth, now through November 7, 2016.  The show, entitled “Animals on the Loose II” is the second in a series, with the first appearing last year at Rockland Trust, in Orleans.  An artist’s reception will be held this Saturday, October 22, 2-4pm – come stop by!
Show times are Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm; Saturday, 11am-5pm; and Sunday, 12pm-5pm.  There may also be an occasional unscheduled evening showing.  To check about those, call 508-394-7100.
The artwork in the show was created by the students during a four-month period, as part of a Latham Centers’ classroom project led by teacher Suzanne Requa-Trautz.  First the students in her class selected photos of animals that interested them. During classroom time, they learn more about their specific selected animals. Then, they built forms for their animal artworks out of cardboard, PVC Pipe, crumpled newspaper, foil and wire. The students covered those forms with plaster wrapped and then painted them with acrylic paint.  There were many happy collaborations among the students — this being named a favorite annual project by students and staff alike.
