What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most about my job is the diversity; one minute I’m helping a student in the class and the next I’m working with a child in crisis. It makes the day just fly by.  I also appreciate the camaraderie between staff. It is a very cohesive group which support one another.
Describe a few of your responsibilities and how you spend much of your time.
My responsibilities are aiding the teacher in the classroom and helping to keep the class flowing so learning can take place. I also complete the lunch orders, have bathroom duty, keep track of student’s points for the day and complete Theraps at the end of the day.  To me my most important job is to help the students be the best that they can be.
What skills are most important for professionals who work with individuals with PWS or other complex special needs?
Skills that are needed to work with special needs individuals are patience, flexibility, being a good listener and a problem solver.
What do you love about working with individuals with PWS or other complex special needs?
I love working with children with special needs. It is both challenging and rewarding.
Has this job taught you anything about yourself?
Working at Latham has taught me patience. It also makes me thankful for the life I have and personal gifts I was given.
How do you spend your time when you’re not working at Latham?
When I’m not at Latham I love to spend time at the beach, I love to garden, cook, knit, read and enjoy the company of family and friends.
What advice would you give to someone contemplating a career at Latham Centers?
The advice I would give to potential staff is to come with an open mind, to educate themselves about Latham’s population, and to listen to staff and students, they are great teachers!
