Latham Players Year-in-Review: The Donkey Wedding

Performing Arts News: In Part 2 of our blog series highlighting this year’s Latham Players performances, we express our sincere appreciation to The Players for making the wedding of miniature donkeys Esther and Esau such a memorable occasion.

Latham Centers’ therapy donkeys Esther and Esau “got hitched” on May 11th at Taylor-Bray Farm in Yarmouth Port in the presence of more than 230 guests. The Players’ role in the Donkey Wedding was prominent; the group serenaded Esther and Esau with a performance of “Till There Was You” during the ceremony.

Latham Players Artistic Director Dinah Lane said “The Players got a kick out of singing such an appropriate love song for two of their favorite donkeys with lyrics such as: ‘And there was music, and there were wonderful roses, they tell me, of sweet fragrant meadows of dawn and dew’.” The individuals in our Adult Program generously gave their time, talent, and enthusiasm to make the day special for our donkeys and invited guests, as you can see in the photos and video clip.

We’re so grateful to The Players for being a part of this epic Latham celebration!

The Donkey Wedding raised over $13,000 to support Latham’s Asinotherapy Program. Funds raised help subsidize the cost of caring for Latham Centers’ six therapeutic miniature donkeys. The program means so much to many of the individuals served by Latham. Stay tuned for the details of next year’s donkey event, currently in the works by an all-volunteer Donkeys-for-Good planning committee!
