Our Special Olympics football team, the Latham Hawks, began their season by attending their Qualifying Tournament at Taunton High School on Saturday, October 14th. The team took first place in their division, ending the day with one win and one tie. Special Olympics football is a unified sport, allowing two staff members to play on the field at a time with three students. The students were playing extremely well during the first half of the first game, so during the second half, both staff members stepped off the field for an extended period of time and the students were able to run their own plays, resulting in a touchdown!
A huge thank you goes out to the coaching staff: Frannie Quirk, Lauren Viera, Krystal Ketler, Jadon DaSilva, Jose Martinez, and Sadie Tansey. All coaches had great things to say about the day and were very pleased with the results. The Hawks continue to practice Friday afternoons until their State Tournament in November.
