Latham community celebrates at annual year-end event

Latham Centers’ Year End Celebration was a memorable day of recognition and thanks. We celebrated the theme of Independence throughout the ceremony and awards presentation held on our Brewster campus on Thursday, June 21st. Opening remarks by our incoming Board of Directors Chair Chris Gillstrom-Burgess highlighted the many ways students and staff have enhanced our Latham community during the 2017-18 year, focusing on our service delivery values of Mastery, Belonging, Generosity, and Independence.

In her annual update, Latham President Anne McManus shared highlights of some notable achievements, including:

  • students’ music memory competition win and Brewster in Bloom parade ‘most creative’ float honor;

  • student Marcus’ annual t-shirt design competition win;

  • tremendous progress on our capital campaign for the Latham Community Center;

  • the publishing of our new Latham cookbook for the Prader-Willi syndrome community;

  • numerous internal promotions and staff development through extensive training opportunities;

  • honors for Children’s Services leaders Gerry Pouliot and Meghan Pouliot (Alumni Educators of the Year); and

  • inspirational family-led fundraising events including Leah Healy’s PWS Run and Brendan Corliss’ Portland-to-Cape Cod bike ride.

Several staff members, students, community partners, and outgoing board members were recognized and honored for their outstanding support and service, and incoming members of Latham’s Board of Directors were introduced. The highlight of the day was musical performances by students and adult residents. The Latham Players performed “Start of Something New,” Latham students performed “One of Those Days,” and both groups joined together for “This is Me.”

Many more special moments from the 2017-18 Year End Celebration of Independence at Latham will follow in upcoming blog posts.
