January 26, 2016
The Children’s Residential Department is honored to announce that Dominic Monick has been nominated for the Massachusetts Association of Approved Private Schools (maaps), 2016 Albert E. Trieschman Memorial Award for Exceptional Direct Service to Children!
This award is intended to acknowledge superior direct service contributions to special needs children. Dominic Monick exemplifies dedication and superior contributions to the students at Latham Centers. He is integral in implementing daily programming to assist students to remain at baseline and reach their Activities of Daily Living goals.
Dominic finds the strengths within every student he works with. His ability to connect with students, accept their challenges and utilize their strengths helps the student to build self-esteem and self-awareness. If you visit the residential suite in which Dominic works you would be bombarded by art work created by the students with help from Dom’s creative teaching approaches.
Dominic clearly loves his job as evidenced by his genuine interactions and understands the approach “kids do well if they can”. Because of this, Dom is a strong advocate for his student’s needs and utilizes collaboration and problem solving in order to help students have a voice and choice in their programming.
