Latham Centers has been selected by Cape Cod Charitable FunRaisers as one of eight lucky beneficiaries! One-hundred percent of the funds raised from all Cape Cod Charitable FunRaiser events, including the Last Gasp, support the children and adults who call Latham Centers home.
On our August 9th  blog post we informed you about the different ways to get involved: 1. Become a Rider Yourself, 2. Donate to a Rider, or 3. Cheer on our Riders! (Please click on the above link to learn more).
Now, we’d like to share WHY Board Member Chris Gillstrom, and her husband, are biking for the residents of Latham Centers.
“I’m sending this email to my family, friends and colleagues regarding the 25th year of The Last Gasp 62-mile bike ride fundraiser in which both Mark, [my husband] and I are participating!  The Last Gasp is a fundraiser which benefits local Cape Cod charities, [and] I’m very happy to say this includes Latham Centers , a non-profit organization of which I am a Board Member). I want the people in my life to be given the opportunity to donate to Latham Centers since it is so dear to my heart.
You’ve probably have heard me mention the Gasp before as this is Mark’s 20th year of participating in the event and, believe it or not, this will be my FIRST year riding!  Yes, this couch potato is getting off the sofa and on a bike to raise money for Latham Centers!  So, this September 18, approximately 300-400 riders (including Mark AND me) will be biking 62 miles riding the length of Cape Cod from Sandwich to the tip in P-Town.
Both Mark and I will be riding to raise funds exclusively for our beneficiary of choice, Latham Centers.  Located in Brewster, MA, Latham Centers is a leader in the treatment of children and adults with intellectual disabilities and complex special needs, including Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). PWS is a complex genetic disorder that manifests with severe, idiosyncratic symptoms, including an insatiable appetite, the health implications of which can be serious. Inattention to the special treatments required by those with PWS can be life-threatening. Latham is the only specialized resource for PWS on the East Coast.
Any money raised on behalf of Latham Centers will directly benefit our Capital Campaign [and the] Latham Community Center, which will serve as a hub for the entire special needs community on Cape Cod. It will be available to the residents of Brewster and neighboring towns for meetings, exercise, technology use and cultural events.
Whether you support me or Mark, the money still goes to Latham Centers, a very worthy organization!  Online donations are quick and easy (see the website link listed below).  Checks are accepted as well (see donation information below).
Thank you, in advance, for your support!  Please wish me luck!”
