Jazz in the Schools comes to Latham

As part of a visiting artist series through Cape Conservatory, “Jazz in the Schools” delighted students and staff at Latham Centers at the end of January. At the special music presentation, Latham welcomed three professional jazz musicians from Cape Cod for an interactive music session with the students. Highlights included explanation of jazz terms, sharing a variety of styles of jazz, and getting the students involved with singing, clapping and dancing along. Another highlight featured Performing Arts teacher and fellow jazz musician Sarah jane Mason sitting in to sing a few tunes with the band as well. This was the first of several visiting artists set to share their music with the students of Latham this winter and spring, a program funded by a generous grant from the Federated Church of Orleans. Other visiting artists on the schedule include a Symphony Spotlight series, featuring the brass and string sections of the orchestra, as well as Cape Cod African Dance and Drum.

Our Children’s Program is looking forward to the music these professional artists will bring to the Latham School campus.
