Horse Care at Emerald Hollow Farms: “Inspiring faces and impressively natural”

By Brittni Meins, Residential Supervisor

Horse care for our students at Latham is so beneficial. It is well known that riding helps stimulate brain activity and sensory receptors. Moreover, it is very calming for people with different abilities.

When serving as a staff for the students at Emerald Hollow Farm, it is inspiring to see the looks on their faces, and impressive how naturally they ride and groom these beautiful animals. Even our students who are more reluctant to groom the horses show a decrease in irritability once they start. Last week, I was with a student at horse care and was amazed that by the end of the session, his anxiety level had noticeably decreased.

The smiles on our students’ faces and concentration while caring for the horses say it all.
