Foundation for Prader-Willi Research Conference was a huge success!

Several of our staff members recently attended an impactful Foundation for Prader-Willi Research (FPWR) Annual Conference. “We were excited as we boarded the plane to the Windy City, and equally as excited to return to campus with all that we had learned,” noted Katrina Kozak, Director of National Outreach. Attendees included Special Education Teachers, Residential Program staff, Clinicians, Behavior Technicians, and other Latham team members.

The primary goal of the work trip was professional development — educating our staff about advances in the field and best techniques. Latham participants met others in the PWS community and gained new knowledge and insights to bring back to our programs.

The sessions were inspiring and educational, including:

    • Environmental Interventions

    • The importance of sleep

    • Mental Health Challenge Strategies

    • Response Perseveration in PWS

    • Non-medication approaches to therapy

    • Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS)

Behavior Technician Ashley Boudreau said she enjoyed hearing from so many professionals in the field of PWS. “It was reaffirmed that our practices at Latham Centers are in line with the best standards of care. I can’t wait to share this information with my colleagues when I get back to campus!”

Katrina added that “our staff also enjoyed much that the beautiful city offered. Take a look at the pictures in the slide show to get just a small sense of the good time had by all.”
