Expanding Our Circle (Part 3): Latham Players perform at press conference

In a heartwarming conclusion to our public launch of the Latham Community Center Capital Campaign, the Latham Players performed “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” . The Players are residents in Latham’s Adult Services Program, and our future Community Center will provide them with a much-needed home for rehearsing and performing many genres of musical entertainment. While our Players are welcomed for performances at area nursing homes and churches, it has been challenging to find space for all 15 performers and their choreography. “It will be great to have an auditorium with enough seating to accommodate their family members, friends, and community guests,” noted Scott Fitzgerald, Latham Centers’ Director of Adult Services.

Plans for the Latham Community Center include an auditorium that will function as a performing arts center for theatrical and musical programs – not only for The Players but also for other civic, private, and community groups. The Center will provide a dedicated place for all Latham residents – both students and adults – to establish and maintain important social connections beyond their individual residences. “Our Adult and Children’s Services Programs are excited about having common space for the individuals we serve and their families to come together for arts, culture, and recreation,” Scott said. “The new Center will enrich the lives of our individuals and the community members beyond Latham, and greatly enhance our opportunities for community inclusion.”
