Alden reads for Storytime: “Practice makes perfect.”

Our Admissions/Outreach team is excited to share highlights about Alden, one of our recent student readers who has been joining Latham’s Virtual Storytime since day one. “Throughout that time, he has truly begun to shine! While at first he was slightly timid, over time he has become more comfortable on the Zoom platform, and he has become one of our most involved kiddos,” noted Katrina Fryklund, Director of National Outreach. “Weekly, he gives his friends updates on his new puppy Hazel and engages his friends in all sorts of fun conversations. Alden decided to read The Helpful Puppy by Kim Zarins, and practiced many times before reading. By the time Monday came along, he read flawlessly and even turned the pages on his own! We are so proud of you, Alden!”

When asked about his experience, he had these heartwarming responses to share with us:

  • What do you like about Storytime? YOU GET TO HEAR DIFFERENT PEOPLE READ A STORY AND SEE NEW FRIENDS.

  • Do you feel like you have a larger community now? DEFINITELY! I JUST COUNTED 6 NEW FRIENDS WHILE I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT!

  • What do you like about the Storytime community? IT ALLOWS ME TO SEE AND TALK TO FRIENDS. I REALLY DON’T HAVE THAT.

  • Did you like the book you read? Why did you like it? YES! BECAUSE IT WAS ABOUT PUPPIES. I LIKE PUPPIES AND I HAVE A NEW PUPPY AT HOME.

  • What is a really fun fact about you that the people reading this blog should know? I LOVE TO WEED AND CAN DO IT FOR HOURS AND HOURS AND I LIKE TO DO JIGSAW PUZZLES WITH MY DAD.

  • Did you learn anything from the experience of reading? I LEARNED IT IS GOOD TO PRACTICE BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING NEW. IT MADE ME FEEL HAPPY WHEN I READ TO MY FRIENDS.

Many thanks to Alden and his family for sharing your Virtual Storytime experience with the greater Latham community!
