Tip of the Week: Tip for home visits
January 4, 2019
This week’s tip comes from a 13 year old student with PWS who wants to help other kids during home visits:
“ I love going home but I get anxious because I don’t know what to expect. I don’t know what I’m going to eat or who I’m going to see. It would help me if I have a schedule for each day, and a menu so I’m not always hoping for take-out that either happens or it doesn’t. Not knowing upsets me and then I have behaviors and I don’t want that.”
As much as it’s tempting to give your child extra treats on home visits, it can often backfire on you and potentially disrupt the visit. Clear expectations and routines will help keep the visit positive and stress-free.
