Tip of the Week: Back to School

Likely one of the biggest and most anxiety-producing transitions of the year is fast approaching—the start of the new school year.

  • For sensory sensitive kids, be sure to wash new school clothes several times before they are first worn. An uncomfortable outfit will ruin any chance of concentration and success. Our kids often can’t tolerate the feel of stiff, new clothing.

  • Ask if your child can meet their teacher and visit the classroom before the year starts.

  • Go over the rules every day between now and the start of school.

As is very often the case, it is the mystery that causes the anxiety more than the actual event.
