Principal’s Corner: Classroom jobs and “Breakwater” smiles

Students in the Breakwater Classroom are hard at work at their new classroom jobs! Special Education Teacher Catherine and Classroom Aide Craig supervise the Breakwater boys in a variety of important positions. Classroom jobs encourage students to develop occupational skills, take pride in their work and classroom environment, and earn and manage their finances. Jobs include:

  • Maintenance Assistant:  Sets up the suite dining area morning and afternoon, takes charge of trash and bin delivery after meals, cleans doorknobs and windows, and dusts surfaces.

  • Administrative Assistant:  Works throughout the week preparing for Sunday services by typing Mass Order details; picking out next week’s hymns, Gospels, and Homily; printing/folding Mass materials, updates whiteboard information, cleans the “Main Chapel” and “Bible Room,” and assists teacher with errands, copies, printing, checklists, and schedule.

  • Teacher Assistant:  Writes lunch menu on the board, waters the plants, helps teacher pass out teaching materials, and assists teacher with errands, copies, printing, checklists, and schedule.

  • Librarian Assistant:  Organizes books that have been returned, cleans surfaces and doorknobs, alphabetizes books as needed, empties trash, updates Check-Out log, maintains headphone and iPad collection and charging.

Each day, Catherine or Craig initials a “time log” for jobs that each position is assigned that day. Way to go, Breakwater Classroom!
