Latham Outreach: connecting and learning at special needs conferences

Members of our outreach team attended two March conferences in Massachusetts for the special needs community. Both the Federation for Children with Special Needs (FCSN) and the Special Needs Advocacy Network (SPaN) hosted sessions for parents, guardians, and representatives from schools and programs to meet one another, connect with people who have similar interests, and learn more about the world of special needs care.

Katrina Fryklund, Latham’s Director of National Outreach, said the conferences were ideal opportunities to develop new relationships with others who serve children with disabilities. “I had the pleasure of attending both conferences, and they enabled me to meet countless people within the field of special needs. I heard personal stories from parents and guardians which reinforced why I work in this amazing, meaningful field. Colleagues from other programs gave insights into different aspects of their educational, residential, and clinical components. Speakers discussed their experiences—as well as the changes in the field. These conferences provide unique opportunities for us to learn from other experts and continue to grow our Latham community.”
