Another summer has ended and the school year is finally here. This year the Latham community has redirected its focus to Health & Wellness. During Physical Education the students will focus on the experiences, skills and knowledge to discovering and developing their own physical literacy. We will focus on the ability to feel confident and knowledgeable in a wide variety of activities, in multiple environments. With many thanks to grants that have been presented to us, Latham is on its way to building a stronger Health & Wellness program with new equipment for both the school and residence!
In class, the students will begin with a Tennis Unit. Students will focus on their balance, hand-eye coordination, gross motor skills and problem solving. In Health class, students will begin the year with Social Emotional Health focusing on Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships, Interpersonal Relationships, Effective Communication and more.
Football and Soccer Special Olympics Teams will be kicking off the year on Mondays and Fridays this fall as they begin practices for their season-ending tournaments to take place in late October and November.  Residence continues to run Campus Activities for the students to participate in after school with each suite running a fun-filled activity such as “Track-It” with the Nantucket suite, and Mystery Fitness Activities with Monique.
We all know how hard it is to accomplish something alone, so together as a community we will work together to focus on the benefits of physical activity rather than the difficulties.
