Tip of the Week: Keeping calm through trying times

Especially for our Prader-Willi syndrome community – but helpful reminders for all of us:

With the latest changes to our day-to-day lives as a result of the coronavirus, we wanted to share some suggestions for you and your children. When talking to your child, keep your message brief and calm. Remember that your child is keenly aware of your mood, your anxiety level, and the details of your routine as much as their own. With many schools closing for days to weeks, be sure to have a pre-planned routine ready to go. Try to stick to regular bedtimes and wake-up times so the transition back to school will be easier. Your kids are paying attention even when you don’t realize it, so consider keeping the news off during their waking hours.

If you are stocking up on food, remember that sometimes the basics can be forgotten during high-stress times, so pay attention to the details — if you normally lock your food, be sure to keep doing so. Welcome help from your neighbors and give back when you can.

Never hesitate to reach out to us for ideas or advice. Together we will help our kids weather the temporary changes ahead.
