Students Get A Kick Out Of Kickball
October 13, 2009
On a beautiful fall afternoon, students and staff gathered to participate in a bragging rights game of kickball. The first annual staff vs. student’s kickball game was a smashing success. Both teams gathered on the Brewster Recreation baseball field located across the street from the Latham Centers.
Honorary volunteer captain Jessie S led the students out to a quick 5-1 lead after 2 innings. However, a determined staff team clawed their way back into the action. Both teams showed great sportsmanship and cooperation as the lead seesawed back and forth throughout the game. Yet, after the student team demonstrated their tremendous communication skills and as a team huddled to discuss strategy heading into the last inning of play. With all their teammates standing and clapping in the dugout, the student squad launched a late inning rally. As they scored 3 runs in the final inning to overcome their residential staff and win the game in stunning dramatics 12-11.
Smiles and laughter could be seen and heard throughout Brewster as the student team celebrated their hard earned win. Both teams had a wonderful time playing against one another. Both teams spent a gorgeous October afternoon displaying the wonderful spirit that can only be found within the tremendous individuals that make up our great Latham team. Thank you to all that participated and next year the staff will be looking to revenge their heartbreaking loss. Congratulations students on a well played game!
