Latham School students participating in the vocational Latham Works program have been busy crafting a custom foldable wooden mat and finishing a specialty wooden box, both displaying the Figawi logo, to be donated for auction at the 33rd Annual Figawi Charity Ball this weekend. The Ball will be held on Saturday, May 18th at the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis.
The student-decorated box will contain items donated by area businesses, as well as keepsake Figawi swag. These special items will be revealed to the winning bidder on this amazing offering.
The custom wooden mat made by the students can be used as a welcome mat, in an outdoor shower, or on a boat.
Latham’s Vocational Teacher Fred Walters and his team welcomed the opportunity to work with students on these meaningful projects. The photographs show a few of our happy and hardworking students; they are excited about crafting items for the Figawi Auction which raises funds for many local organizations that benefit our community in so many ways. The Figawi Charity Ball is a black-tie event held the week before the annual Figawi Race – one of the premier sailboat races on the east coast. Figawi Charities raises funds to help many organizations here on Cape Cod and the Islands, including Latham Centers. Figawi Charities has generously supported Latham Centers’ capital campaign for the new Latham Community Center — a dynamic multi-use facility where Latham students, adult residents, staff, and community members can be physically active, learn, explore, and connect. The Center will provide opportunities for expanded fitness, arts, and vocational curriculum, and include a gymnasium, fitness center, art room, recreation space, auditorium and stage, technology room, wood shop, and classroom.
Thank you, Figawi! Our students and staff are grateful to be part of such an exciting, impactful event!
