Fall Athletic Season Off and Running
September 21, 2010
The fall teams for Special Olympics began practice this week. Vocational teacher Erin Blood will be coaching the Latham Hawks soccer team and Reading teacher Wayne McDonald is head coach for the football team. Both teams have large numbers of kids who came out for the initial practices and all athletes are looking forward to the upcoming games.
This year we have had to alter our membership slightly since Special Olympics is not allowing athletes to participate in more than one State game event. Since many of our athletes are playing both football and soccer, instead of making athletes choose a sport, we will not be attending the State Games for soccer. This is a disappointment for some athletes, but most are looking forward to the football State games being held at Gillette Stadium in November.
The assessment games for football will be held on October 2 at Taunton High School and soccer will be October 3 at North Attelboro High. For more information about these games please visit the SOMA site by clicking HERE.
