Adult Services Special Olympics News

April 22, 2010

It’s April! It’s finally spring! It’s time for the start of practices for the Latham Adult Services Special Olympics track and field, cycling and swim teams! April showers forced us to cancel our first practice last Saturday, but starting this week, 30 of our athletes will be out running, race walking, bicycling and throwing shotputs and softballs, in preparation for the Cape and Islands area games in May and the Boston summer games in June. All are looking forward to a great season and are ready to start training in hopes of bringing home a medal, and having a fantastic time.

Also this year we have started a small Special Olympics equestrian team. They meet on Wednesdays at a local stable, and will compete in a one day competition in October. Along with riding, they are also learning proper care of the horses, and the responsibilities involved in cleaning and maintaining the stables. The members of this team are very excited about this latest endeavor and are enjoying their time with the horses.
